Community in Motion at City Hall

In April we finished Community in Motion, an international mural exchange in collaboration with Platform Art, Inc. and the community of Lakeland, FL. The artwork has just been moved to Lakeland's City Hall, where it will remain for the rest of 2011. In 2012, the piece will travel to Lakeland's sister city of Imabari, in the prefecture of Ehime, Japan.

On Monday June 6, 2011, a reception was held to honor the mural, in conjunction with the City Commission Meeting. The children who made the bicycles for the mural arrived before the meeting and were able to see the finished mural for the first time and with the help of artist Paula Allen, they were all able to find their bikes on the art. Following a meet and greet with Polly, Platform Art, and the mural sponsors, all of the children and invited guests attended the City Commission Meeting. Lakeland's Mayor Fields brought everyone who participated in the mural project to the front of the meeting and read a proclamation recognizing the importance of the mural for the community, its continued presence at city hall, and the exchange with Japan. He also declared June 6, 2011 to be "Community in Motion" day in the city of Lakeland, FL.
